Can paternity be established using amniotic fluid, in the state of Tennessee?
I’ve been told that Tennessee law states that parents can not use this method to establish paternity But can not find evidence that this is true.
Amniotic fluid is fluid they withdraw usually used to test for genetic defects. I’ve googled and can’t seem to find a yes or no to this question. Paternity can be established using the amniotic fluid but is this procedure legal and used in the state of Tennessee?
I’ve asked this question in other forums without any luck so I’m checking here just in case someone might know…
Thank you for any help you might can give…:)
The procedure is already scheduled, they are testing for defects due to the couple being high risk— the couple just wants to establish paternity since the procedure is already being done but the dr. office told them that it is not legal to do such testing in TN….Just checking to make sure this is accurate..
I really can’t tell you specifically about TN, but in general no, most courts will not order an amniocentesis unless it is medically necessary (which is not so for paternity issues) because it is considered a high risk procedure.
