Why is it acceptable to use cotton swabs to collect evidence at the crime scene, where the cotton is organic matter w / DNA?
In TV, provided blood samples and so on w / Q-Tips. I know this is not real, but I guess that s how they do in real life, too. Why not the DNA of the cotton plant contaminate the blood, as all living things contain DNA? I think you should always be waste of cotton when tested, and the machines could confuse chemicals, cotton, chemicals royal blood? Thanks!
DNA samples are processed PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). For this reaction occurs primers are added. These are short sequences of complementary DNA sequences that bind to specific of DNA that are to research. In court cases, using primers specific to man, so in theory it could contaminate the sample with any DNA source, but only the man's DNA is amplified. Since there is little homology between man and cotton, using cotton swabs would not be a problem.
