I am looking for my father Peter Smith. I am not sure if this is his real name.?
My name is Colettee Phyllis More and I was born in 1955 in Inglewood, Taranaki, New Zealand. I am now 53 years old and I have tried to obtain as much information as I can about my father. This is the last resort.
I have a sister called Darlene.
I think his family owned a newspaper business in Surrey or Sussex? While living in NZ he worked on a farm for my mother Dora Joyce More around 1954. He owned a motor bike. A paternity test was done to prove that he was my father and I am awaiting these records at present. I have no name of my father on my birth certificate. He left NZ not long after I was born to go back to England.
I was also going to suggest 192.com. It’s got birth, death and marriage records as well as the electoral roll (last known address, age, who lives with them etc, we have to fill them in every few years or so). I’ll do a quick search for you now…
In Surrey you have;
Free Directory Enquiries (phone number/address)
155 records
Electoral Roll 2009
87 records
Electoral Roll 2002 – 2008
200 records
Director Report
62 records
Business Directory
30 records
Family Records (post-1984)
200 records
In Sussex there are too many records.
If you have a rough idea of when Darlene was born that may be a good place to start. It’s not a very common name, I bet there are no more than 1000 from 1955 to 1975 (that’s very good). It would be easier if you knew where she was born also. I’m quite good at this if you’d like to e-mail me and I can help you search.
You need to consider 2 very important things though;
1. He’s passed away.
2. He may not want anything to do with you.
If you’ve come to terms with the above 2 factors I’m more than willing to help.
