paternity test kentucky

What should my friend do as an Underage Father?

My friend had got his girlfriend pregnant and he is underage. now the girlfriend and the family is saying that state law requires him to get a Paternity test in order to sign the Birth Certificate. is this true? he lives in Kentucky under the Common Wealth Laws. i have found a little under the Voluntary Acknowledgment Laws but i cant tell if the state of kentucky uses these laws. can you please give me some more information on weather or not he has to have this DNA test in order to sign as the the father is he KNOWS hes the father? also if you can provide a link that will allow me to see these laws for myself will be greatly appreciated. Any Information at all will be helpful.

Thank you

Usually only one parent signs the birth certificate and its usually the mother as she is the one in the hospital and convenient for the clerks to have sign. They likely want the paternity test to make sure he is the father so that he will also be legally liable for child support. Also keep in mind that if he is interested in being a father to this child, and the mother does NOT list him as the father, he will have to prove in court that he is the father, which would be costly. You didn’t mention if he and the mother still have a relationship or how young they are, but if he is underage, he would be better off with his parent’s assistance in such an important matter, than that of his friends. No offense.
